East Meets West - Art exhibition by Margret Hallmark

Margret is exhibiting again this season, her collection of  paintings past and present to illustrate her theme of how East Meets West through her batik process on silk and how her travels in Asia influenced her own art.

Fascinated by the sensitivity and delivacy of Batik Margret travelled to South East Asia to study its history and ancient techniques.

Having travellled overland from Worecester through Europe and Persia and India to Thailand with David and three others she began her stay in SE Asia creating and exhibiting in Bangkok and Jakarta and Hong Kong and completing commissions.

Her paintings were reviewed by Arts Review London which stated “These Batik paintings on silk are of extraordinary beauty and depth. Exotic but more universal. Exquisite craftmanship and a sure sense of colour. Intricate, elegant, symbolical mythological her eastern themes evoke the profoundest feelings in western sensibilities and a pathway through the Thai jungle can become a path to understanding.
